Truckee softball | Wolverines take two of three at Vikings

The Truckee softball and baseball teams host Sparks on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.) and are scheduled to play three-game league series at Spring Creek this Friday and Saturday.

The Truckee softball team won two out of three games in a league series at South Tahoe this past Friday and Saturday.

After dropping the first contest, 13-2, the Wolverines bounced back to win both ends of Saturday’s doubleheader, 3-2 and 12-5.

Senior pitcher Sylvia Soto earned both wins on Saturday. She finished on the winning end of a pitchers’ duel in the first game of the twin bill, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out four in a complete-game effort.



Soto also went 1-for-3 with a double and RBI. Taylor Stevens, who hit a solo home run, Tori Simpson and Danielle Jackson also had hits for Truckee. Katie Fisher and Anna Hudson stole two bases apiece.

In the series finale, the Wolverines scored at least one run in every inning except the fourth and broke the game open with a six-run fifth.



Truckee banged out nine hits in the contest, with Soto going 3-for-4 and Marisol Rocha driving in two runs on one hit. Fisher had two hits, and Adela Ortiz, Simpson and Anna Hudson contributed a hit apiece.

Ellie Simpson and Soto pitched. Soto earned the win in four innings of work, while Simpson allowed just one hit in three innings.

Kendra Conard pitched the Vikings past the Wolverines on Friday. Conard also hit a grand slam during an eight-run outburst in the second inning and was 2-for-2 at the plate to help lift the hosts to victory.

Stevens and Fisher led Truckee offensively with two hits apiece, while Soto had a hit and RBI, and Rocha and Belin Abundiz each had a hit.

Truckee is now 2-4 in Northern Division I-A play and 4-7-1 overall. South Tahoe is 2-7 in league and overall.

The Truckee baseball team, meanwhile, dropped all three games at South Tahoe this past Friday and Saturday, falling by scores of 4-1, 9-5 and 15-3. Truckee stats were not available.
