Truckee volleyball gets past rival Lakers
October 5, 2006
While the North Tahoe volleyball team fought hard and put up a valiant effort Wednesday night against visiting Northern 3A rival Truckee, the Lakers simply could not match the Wolverines, who won in three sets.
North Tahoe gave its substantial crowd something to cheer about, leading Truckee through the beginning of the first two games. Through a combination of late North Tahoe mistakes and nearly flawless late-game play by Truckee, the Wolverines came back in both of the first two sets and virtually dominating the third to take down the host Lakers.
Game one was a battle full of good volleys, with North Tahoe leading up to about 15 points before Truckee began to score unanswered points en route to a 25-19 victory.
The battle raged on and heated up in game two, when the Lakers again built a lead. Truckee once again seemed to tease the Lakers, turning on the juice just as North Tahoe could see a victory within its grasp.
Truckee eventually came back from a decent deficit to win the second game 25-22.
Truckee coach Nicole Annaloro said she was pleased with game three. That was not surprising, as Truckee never allowed North Tahoe to build any serious momentum in game three, which the Wolverines won, 25-16.

“North Tahoe improved quite a bit since the last time we saw them,” Annaloro said.
The Wolverines, who lost to Whittell in three games on Monday, are now 7-3 in league and 13-7 overall.
