SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. and#8212; After the South Tahoe volleyball team lost to Truckee last week in four games, coach Danny McLaughlin said that his girls could play with Truckee, and beat them.

They lived up to that statement Friday night, as the Vikings defeated Truckee in five games, 25-19, 19-25, 25-22, 17-25, 17-15.

McLaughlin credited teamwork for the win.

The Vikings jumped out to an early lead in game one, 5-1. But Truckee fought back to tie the game 11-11, before South Tahoe was able to create some separation, jumping to a two-point lead, 17-15, then 20-18. Truckee stalled at 19 points, though, as South Tahoe went on to win the game.

Game two went to Truckee, but not without a lack of effort from South Tahoe. Kaila Griffis had five diving digs on just one rally alone. Truckee led the whole way though.

South Tahoe jumped out to an 8-3 lead to start game three and led for most of the game. In game four the two teams stayed point-for-point with each other at the start. Truckee went on a run to lead 15-7 en route to the win.

The final game was by far the most intense, with each team celebrating a point. They fell in stride with each other, 4-4, then 7-7, then 10-10. South Tahoe finally gained some separation on a Drew Norberg block that made it 12-10, but Truckee fought back to tie the game at 14-14. South Tahoe had a rally of its own after the game was tied at 15-15, and won 17-15.

Kaufer had 13 kills on the night, along with three aces. Norberg had 21 kills, three aces and four blocks.

For the Wolverines, Annie Reiswig and Kiersten Knoppel both tallied 11 kills, while Kaylee Lewis had four blocks, Angelena Sahlberg had seven service aces and Brittany Thomas had 31 assists. Katie Mohun and Reiswig each finished with 10 digs.

The loss to end the regular season dropped Truckee to 9-1 in Mount Rose League play and 20-9 overall. The Wolverines still enter Northern 3A Regionals as the top seed from the MRL, which comes with home-court advantage against the Lahontan Leagueand#8217;s No. 2 seed (which has yet to be determined) on Friday at 6 p.m.

South Tahoe will enter Regionals as the MRLand#8217;s second seed and will play at top-seeded Elko of the Ruby Mountain League. The winners of all three regional matches advance to the 3A State Championship in Las Vegas.
