Truckee volleyball | Wolverines fall to McQueen in opener

The Truckee volleyball team opened its season with a loss in three games at Division I (4A) McQueen on Wednesday.

After dropping a tightly contested first game 28-30, the Wolverines fell 19-25 and 20-25.

Despite the loss, however, Truckee head coach Erika Murphy said she was pleased with the way her team played in its first match of the season.

and#8220;Last night, I was excited about what I saw,and#8221; she said. and#8220;We had so many aces. Our girlsand#8217; serves were right to target.and#8221;

The Wolverines finished with eight service aces total, led by junior outside hitter Lauren Peakand#8217;s three aces. Junior outside hitter/middle blocker Mackenzie Redner posted a team-high 10 kills, while senior outside hitter Mel Jones had seven kills and Peak had five.

Truckee will compete in the High Sierra Tournament in Reno on Friday and Saturday, facing large schools from California and Nevada. They open against Pleasant Valley (Calif.) and Golden Valley (Calif.) on Friday.
