Truckee volleyball | Wolverines fighting for playoff berth

Staff report

Truckee junior Anais Fay digs a ball as senior teammate Tori Simpson (7) looks on during a match earlier this season. The Wolverines defeated Fernley in three sets on Tuesday.

The Truckee volleyball team inched closer to securing a playoff berth with a win in straight sets over visiting Fernley on Tuesday, 25-16, 25-12, 25-10.

The Wolverines, who improved to 9-3 in Northern Division I-A play (14-12 overall), will look to maintain their third-place status entering the final week of the regular season. The top four teams advance to the regional postseason tournament.

Truckee has its work cut out. The Wolverines have four league matches remaining, three of which are against competitive teams, and another against Spring Creek (2-9), which pushed Truckee to five games in their first meeting.

The Wolverines play at first-place Elko (12-0) on Friday, at Spring Creek on Saturday and at South Tahoe (8-6) next Thursday. Truckee is scheduled to host second-place Lowry (11-1) in a makeup match on Saturday, Nov. 1.

While Elko and Lowry have clinched playoff berths, Truckee is trying to fend off South Tahoe and Dayton, which are tied for the fourth playoff seed with 8-6 records.

The Northern Division I-A regional tournament is scheduled for Nov. 8-9 at Lowry High School in Winnemucca.
