ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. and#8212; In a rematch of last week’s rout, the Truckee volleyball team faced a little more fight from Whittell on Tuesday.

The Warriors put up a solid effort against the two-time defending 3A state champion Wolverines on Tuesday night in Zephyr Cove, but Truckee won in four close games, 26-24, 25-22, 21-25, 25-22.

Whittell took it to Truckee early, jumping out to a 5-1 lead to start the first game. But Truckee eventually tied it at 9-9. The Wolverines went up 14-11 before Whittell caught up and took the lead back at 17-16 off of a Truckee hitting error.

They swapped the lead again before tying at 24-24 on a Megan Mize shot that went hard to the back row and knocked out by a Wolverine. But Whittell failed to get a shot back over the net and made it 25-24, which was followed by an Annie Reiswig kill for Truckee to seal the win.

The second game was just as close to start, but Truckee was able to get a 12-9 lead and stretch that to 22-17. The Warriors fought back to 23-21, but again Reiswig was there for the kill to make it 24-21. Truckee won the game on a Whittell serve into the net.
