Truckee volleyball: Wolverines win state title in 5-set thriller

The Truckee High School varsity volleyball team won the 2016 Nevada 3A state title Saturday, thanks to a gritty, 5-set victory over Moapa Valley (Southern Nevada) at Damonte Ranch High School.

The Wolverines and Pirates traded sets, with Moapa Valley taking the first (25-19) and Truckee taking the second (25-14). Moapa Valley followed with a 25-19 win in the third set, and Truckee tied the match in the fourth set with a 25-21 victory.

The Wolverines sealed the state title win with a 15-9 win in the final set.



Senior Maia Dvoracek and junior Madison Bromley led the way for Truckee, each with 17 kills in the state title match.

Bromley and junior Hayli Stewart each added 3 aces, while junior Mia Curtis lead the way with 12 digs.



Truckee advanced to the state title game Saturday with an east 3-0 win Friday over Boulder City (25-17, 25-23, 25-22).

The win Saturday over Moapa Valley capped a 27-6 season for coach Erika Murphy.
