The Truckee High wrestling team brought home three third-place medals from the 33rd annual Burney Rotary Invitational in Burney, Calif., this past weekend.Freshman Kyle Mullen, wrestling at 119 pounds, went 3-1 to secure third place. Mullen pinned Clayton Brown of Fall River in his first match before losing by pin to No. 1-seeded Bo Stier of Burney. Mullen then bounced back to defeat Cole Holland of Corning by a score of 20-5 and Eric Smith of Hamilton City 14-11 in his medal match.Bobby Waters, a sophomore wrestling in the 140-pound weight class, ended the tournament with a 5-1 loss to earn his third-place medal. Waters pinned his first opponent, Scott Walstead of Trinity, before dropping his next match 3-9 to Cornings Alex Griego, who placed second in the 140-pound weight class. The sophomore went on to win his next four matches by decision, beating Casey Cleland of Corning 6-2, Travis Clark of Mount Shasta 16-3, Brandon McCorkle of Hamilton City 7-0 and Evan Mulliner of Corning 4-0.At 171 pounds, senior Tim Curtis went 4-1 to earn third place. Curtis pinned his first two opponents, J. Sorenson of Upper Lake and Clint Hall of Bonanza. He then lost to Modocs Bill Hammerness, the eventual winner, by a 2-5 decision. In his next two matches, Curtis won by decision over Jonathon Schultz of Hamilton City 11-5 and Nick Simmons of Corning 3-2.Other Truckee wrestlers who competed in the tournament were Ryan Pearce, Nick Krasensky, Cole Hodges and Robert Raber.
