Undefeated Junior Midgets earn title shot

Special to the Sun

The Truckee Junior Midgets are 8-0 and are headed to the Snow Bowl Championship this Saturday.

The team defeated the Sparks Wolfpack 33-7 over the weekend to advance to the championship game.

Truckee set the tone early when standout Marcus Bellon decleated a Sparks defender and Carter "Hitman" Corso ran around the end.

"Marcus Bellon is very physical and has the highest football IQ I have ever been around," said Truckee Junior Midget head coach Steve Santens.

The backfield of Bellon, Corso, Sean "Fast Cat" Kelly, Kevin "The Beast" Malo, and quarterback Braedy Santens, who completed a long strike to Bellon for a touchdown, are a force to reckon with.

Defensively, middle linebacker Drew Wingard and Marcus "Truckum Down" Trotter led the charge.

"The defensive unit is stout," coach Santens said. "The starting unit has only given up six points in eight games."

Truckee will face a quality opponent in the Douglas Tiger for the Snow Bowl Championship. Truckee dealt the Tigers their first lost in more than two years this season, 28-16.

"If we come out and play the physical game we are capable of, we will be fine," Santens said of the anticipated rematch.

The Snow Bowl Championship will be held at Bishop Manogue High School on Saturday at 2 p.m.
