Staff report

TRUCKEE, Calif. — With the USA Cycling Amateur National Championships in the Tahoe-Truckee area this week, some major highways will be closed to through traffic to accommodate the races.

On Wednesday, June 24, potential traffic impacts may occur on highways 89 and 267 at intersections within town of Truckee limits, according to a statement from the Truckee Police Department.

These delays should be 5 to 10 minutes, occurring throughout the day as the racers in different events pass through Truckee while riding from Northstar California to Loyalton and back.

According to the California Highway Patrol, up to 30-minute delays are possible Wednesday morning on Highway 267 from Kings Beach to Truckee.

On Sunday, June 28, there will be a criterium — a high-speed, short course race — in downtown Truckee.

This will involve a full-day closure from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. of some of the streets in the downtown area to allow cyclists to compete in the 13 individual races that day, according to police.
