The Truckee football faithful got their money's worth at the Wolverines' annual lift-a-thon fundraiser Wednesday.

Backed by an enthusiastic crowd of supporters in the old gym, junior lineman Erik Swalander power cleaned 315 pounds — a new Truckee record — before he was mobbed by ecstatic teammates.

The lift broke the previous school record of 310 pounds, set by standout linebacker and fullback Cole Roberts in 2011.

"He's only the second person ever in our history to do 300 (pounds) or more," Truckee coach Josh Ivens said of Swalander, who was one of three team captains his junior season.

In addition to Swalander's feat, Ivens said every varsity player set a personal record in the power lift.

Orlander Simms cleaned 270 pounds, while Wulfe Retzlaff, Jaime Nelson, Connor Jacobs and Taylor Ludwig all cleaned 250. Cole Harrity, a 161-pound running back and linebacker, cleaned 240 pounds.

"The event was awesome," Ivens said. "The gym was pretty full for the first time I can remember. I was very proud of the players and the overall event."

Ivens said former Truckee football coach Dick Barrett started the lift-a-thon in 1981, and it remains the primary fundraiser for the program.

Red-and-White game

Next up for the Wolverines is their annual Red-and-White seven-on-seven game next Tuesday, June 9.

The game, which kicks off at 4 p.m., pits the to-be varsity team against the graduating seniors, as well as a couple of select alumni. Former Truckee coach Bob Shaffer will lead the graduating seniors.

"Coach Shaffer had those guys out practicing on Tuesday, which makes me a little nervous," Ivens said. "He is the most competitive guy I know. It should make for some good competition."
