Wolverines get home win against Fernley
January 14, 2007
The Truckee High boys basketball team ended a four-game skid in league play with a 56-49 win over visiting Fernley on Saturday.
“It was productive from a team standpoint,” said Truckee head coach Keith Crawford. “I think my guys played incredibly well.”
The Wolverines are now 3-5 in the Northern 3A ” coming off consecutive league losses to Sparks, Lowry, Spring Creek and Incline ” and 7-8 overall, while the Vaqueros fell to 3-5 and 7-8 overall.
“The No. 1 thing that we did is we didn’t come out fouling,” Crawford said, adding that the Wolverines committed only 14 fouls in the contest. “That’s going to be the key the rest of the season. The other key was that we were patient on offense.”
Leading the way on offense was sophomore Ryan Roberts, who started at guard and finished with a team-high 13 points, including three from behind the three-point arc. Junior post player Pat Galvin finished with 12 points, and Drew Stewart and Cory Hoehn added nine points apiece. Hoehn led the team in rebounds with nine.
The game remained tight throughout, and although Fernley initiated the scoring, the Wolverines never trailed after Galvin hit a three-pointer in the opening minutes.

“My hat’s off to Fernley,” Crawford said. “They’ve gotten a whole lot better in the last couple years.”
The Wolverines host Spring Creek on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Lowry the following day at 3:30 p.m. in the Truckee High gym.
