Youth swim team fares well at Carson meet

Truckee Tahoe Swim Team members are pictured at the King Of The Hill Challenge meet in Carson City.

The Truckee Tahoe Swim Team had 32 swimmers participate over three days at the King Of The Hill Challenge meet in Carson City this month.

The meet was a smashing success for the Truckee team, which achieved the King Of The Hill Crown with 18 wins, a Sierra Nevada Swimming Record and three team records.     

Cooper DeRyk sprinted every round of the 50 to knock out the competition, recording his fastest sprint of the meet in the head-to-head final, which he won with a time of 21 seconds.  

DeRyk, Kaikea Crews, Emma Purdy, Reece Hoffmann, Megan Darzynkiewicz, Megan Burrill, Anna Kates, Grace Bronstone and Dylan Cole combined for 18 age group and overall event wins.  

DeRyk set new team records in the 100 butterfly at :52.28. He also won the 100 free in a heat that saw a TTST showdown swim with Crews.

Crews set a new team record 400 IM and  a new Sierra Nevada Swimming Record in the 200 backstroke at 1:57.36. Crews also took High Point for the 11-12 boys with a perfect 200 point score line for 10 wins.

Purdy took first place in the 50 breast, and 200 breast for her age group, while Hoffmann took first place in the 50 breast for her age group. Hoffmann also posted a first-place finish for the 9-10 girls in a best-time performance. 

Darzynkiewicz, Burrill, Kates and Bronstone teamed up to win the girls 200 free relay in a time of 1:58.41.  

Cole showed his new talents in the 1650, dropping an outstanding 2 minutes to win with a time of 19:03. He also acquired the most improvement points for this single competition to take the honor of TTST Swimmer of the Meet.
