Statewide special election sample ballots to be mailed April 9

Sun Staff Report

The Placer County Election Office released the following today:

Sample ballot pamphlets for the May 19, 2009 Statewide Special Election will begin to mail on April 9, 2009 to all Placer County registered voters. Vote-by-mail ballots will begin mailing on April 20, 2009.

The sample ballot pamphlet will provide voters with important information. For example, your polling place location is listed on the back cover. This election many polling place locations have changed. In addition to finding your polling place location on the back cover of your sample ballot pamphlet, you can look it up on the Placer County Elections Division website http://www.placer.ca.gov/elections or call the Elections Division at 530-886-5650 or toll-free in California 1-800-824-8683. Look up your polling place location in advance to save time when you go to vote on Election Day.

If you are a permanent vote-by-mail (PVBM) voter or if you reside in a mail ballot precinct, your pamphlet will indicate that your ballot will be mailed to you automatically in the polling place location area on the back cover of the pamphlet. It is not necessary for PVBM voters to submit a new request for a ballot.

For voters who are not permanent vote-by-mail voters and voters who do not reside in a mail ballot precinct, the back cover of the sample ballot pamphlet can be used as a vote-by-mail ballot application. A request form may also be downloaded online at HYPERLINK “http://www.placer.ca.gov/elections” http://www.placer.ca.gov/elections.

To ensure sufficient processing time, the last day by law that the Elections Division may mail a voter-requested vote-by-mail ballot is May 12, 2009. Voters can pick up a vote-by-mail ballot in our office anytime from April 20, 2009 until Election Day, May 19, 2009. The Elections Division is located at 2956 Richardson Drive in the DeWitt Center in Auburn. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Election Day hours are 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
