Storm brings snow, skiers to Lake Tahoe resorts

RENO, Nev. and#8212; Friday’s storm brought up to 15 inches of snow to the Sierra Nevada and smiles to the faces of skiers and snowboarders.

Boreal Mountain Resort atop Donner Summit reported 12 to 15 inches of new snow, while Alpine Meadows just north of Lake Tahoe reported 8 to 10 inches of new snow.

Squaw Valley USA and Northstar-at-Tahoe opened for the season Friday. Boreal and Mt. Rose opened earlier.

They will be open daily with limited operations until they receive more snow.

Cold temperatures are allowing ski resorts to crank up their snow-making machines into higher gear.
