Stream training set for Sagehen

A second training session will be held Saturday for volunteers in a new Adopt A Stream program for the Truckee River watershed. The Truckee River Watershed Council is sponsoring the monitoring of local streams with the aid of a $28,000 grant from the Sierra Nevada Alliance. The council has identified six local waterways as prime candidates for adoption: Donner Creek, Cold Creek, Martis Creek, Trout Creek, Little Truckee River and Squaw Creek.Last week, two dozen volunteers turned out at the Sagehen Creek field station to begin learning how to conduct a battery of tests to measure water quality. The training resumes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sagehen station, and new volunteers are invited to attend. For more information about Saturdays training, or to learn more about the Adopt A Stream program, call Beth Christman at the watershed council at 550-8760.
