Sugar Bowl Academy skier signs letter of intent

Provided to the SunMatt Richardson recently signed a letter of intent to ski at Rocky Mountain College in Montana.

Matt Richardson, a longtime Far West ski racer and five-year Sugar Bowl Academy student, signed a letter of intent to join Rocky Mountain College’s ski team in the fall.

Rocky Mountain College, located in Billings, Mont., has a long tradition in ski racing, including winning two national USCSA titles in the past four years.

Richardson received both academic and athletic scholarships from the school and will also participate with the Rocky Mountain golf team while studying business. He is set to graduate from Sugar Bowl Academy with the rest of his senior class on June 7.

During his time at the school, Richardson suffered a severe broken leg in a training accident in Chile in 2005. The accident led to four surgeries and a lengthy comeback.

The culmination of that comeback came at the end of this past season when Richardson won the final USSA Far West Championships slalom race and took second in an FIS race in Oregon.
