Summer continues, but fall weather is on the way

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE ” Another beautiful late summer day is expected today but a little warmer than what we saw on Wednesday. Sunny skies with a few afternoon clouds and generally light winds will be the story today. Highs will warm into the 70s for all areas except for lower 80s around Woodfords and Markleeville.

Tonight will bring clear skies and light winds which will make for more cool conditions as lows drop down into the mid 30s around Truckee with upper 30s to upper 40s for the rest of us depending on where you live or are staying.

Overall, these temperatures are rather close to average for this time of year.

With the shorter days, cool nights and dry conditions, look for a few patches of fall foliage to begin to appear especially at the higher elevations in the next week or two.

So where did the smoke come from this time? On Tuesday morning, that smoke plume actually came from a fire burning in the Coastal Range east of San Jose in the Bay Area. It was quickly pushed out by the strong winds we had that day.

As for the smoke on Wednesday morning, that was from another fire, the Moonlight Fire burning near Lake Almanor. As the winds shifted around to the north that brought the smoke down into the basin. Over the next few days, our steering winds will be light and from the southwest so unless a new fire erupts to our southwest over the next few days, we should remain relatively smoke free.
