Summit rest areas closing for work
The Department of Transportation will close the east- and westbound Donner Summit rest areas along Interstate 80 for one day each to install new water meters and for routine maintenance.
The eastbound Donner Summit rest area will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 6 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The westbound rest area will be closed the following day, Thursday, Sept. 7, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In order to install the new water meters, the water to the facility will have to be turned off and the rest area closed. The closure will also provide Caltrans’ crews an opportunity to do routine maintenance. Crews will be clearing the drains and paving and re-striping the parking lot.
