Sun editorial: 9th annual Gifts for Good campaign under way

TAHOE/TRUCKEE and#8212; Today marks the official launch of the ninth-annual Gifts for Good campaign. For those unaware, Gifts for Good, sponsored by Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation in partnership with the Sierra Sun, raises money for local nonprofit organizations.

Hereand#8217;s how it works. You make a tax-deductible donation to Gifts for Good for any amount and#8212; whether it is $5 or $500,000. Your donation will be promptly acknowledged and pooled with donations from many other donors. Then, beginning in January 2012, any nonprofit organization in Truckee/North Tahoe can apply for a grant.

There are several ways to donate: Go to the foundationand#8217;s website at ttcf.net/give to give online, mail a check to TTCF, P.O. Box 366, Truckee, CA 96160, or stop by our office at 11071 Donner Pass Road in Truckee (next to NAPA Auto Parts). You also can look for the coupon inside Wednesday’s paper and fill out the pertinent information. Questions? Feel free to contact Linda Brown, interim TTCF director, at 530-587-1776 or lindabrown@ttcf.net.

As we embark on the holiday season, weand#8217;d like to ask all our passionate readers to think about your less-fortunate neighbors and the proposed projects out there that are designed to enhance our community image. Then, focus your energy in just the few minutes it takes to write a letter to the editor or type a comment online and donate whatever you can to Gifts for Good.

During the next few weeks, weand#8217;ll publish My Turn columns from foundation members who will share even more terrific reasons why it pays to donate.

So do your part. Donate to Gifts for Good. We guarantee and#8212; you wonand#8217;t be disappointed.
