High pressure at the surface and aloft will continue to dominate the weather pattern in the Lake Tahoe area today and Tuesday.

Highs today and Tuesday are forecast to reach the upper 40s to lower 50s around the lake under sunny skies and light winds.

A strong temperature inversion is expected to develop with highs at the 8000 foot resort level reaching the mid 40s.

Overnight lows will be colder at lake level under this inversion with readings in the teens around the lake while upper elevations remain in the lower to mid 30s overnight. Look for local areas of dense fog developing in the Truckee area after midnight and diminishing after sunrise in this stable airmass.

Computer forecast models are showing a weak low pressure trough and cold front dropping south from the Pacific Northwest into the Tahoe area on Wednesday.

This front is expected to bring increasing clouds and southwest winds on Wednesday but only a slight chance of snow showers along a narrow frontal band. Look for slightly cooler temperatures and gusty northeast ridge top winds developing in the post frontal air mass from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday.
