SOUTH LAKE TAHOE ” A strong high-pressure system remains anchored over Nevada this week. This Great Basin high has resulted in Santa Ana winds fanning devastating fires over Southern California.

The Tahoe area has enjoyed great Indian summer weather the past few days, and it will continue into Thursday. Highs today will be a few degrees warmer, reaching into the lower 70s under sunny skies this afternoon. Look for overnight lows to drop back into the 20s again with clear skies and very low humidities. Today’s high temperatures will be close to record readings for Oct. 24, and about 18 degrees above the seasonal normal.

The high pressure ridge slowly weakens over the next few day as an upper-level trough of low pressure drops south from the Pacific northwest. This trough will pinch off into a weak upper low off the Northern California coast by Friday, resulting in cooler temperatures and breezy afternoons Thursday and Friday. This cooling trend will bring daytime temperatures back into the 50s or near seasonal norms by Friday.
