Sunny and warmer today and Friday, gusty east winds through tonight

A very strong upper level high pressure ridge along the west coast will bring much above normal temperatures with possible record highs to the Tahoe area through the weekend.

Highs today will warm up about 10 degrees higher from yesterday with readings in the mid to upper 70s around the lake under sunny skies. A lake wind advisory continues in effect until 7 p.m. this evening for east winds 10 to 20 mph and local gusts up to 35 mph generating waves up to 3 feet on Tahoe’s west shore.

Lows tonight are forecast to drop into the upper 30s to lower 40s.

Temperatures will continue to climb on Friday as the upper high pressure system expands eastward over Northern California. Highs Friday are projected to reach the upper 70s to lower 80s at lake level with sunny skies and light east winds to 15 mph.

High temperatures are expected to peak this weekend with records set or tied. These very warm temperature could trigger some isolated late afternoon and evening thunderstorms on Sunday and Monday.
