Sunny and warmer today and into the coming weekend

A strong upper level high pressure ridge is forecast to build over the Tahoe area over the next several days while a surface high develops over the Great Basin.

This high pressure pattern will result in sunny skies, light winds and much warmer daytime temperatures into the coming weekend.

Highs today are forecast to reach the mid to upper 50s around the lake and in the low to mid 40s at the 8000 foot resort level.

Lows tonight are expected to drop into the lower to mid 20s at lake level while reading in the 30s are likely in the upper elevations as a strong temperature inversion develops in this stable pattern.

Look for warmer temperature on Friday as sinking air associated with the high pressure system results in compressional or adiabatic warming in meteorological terms.

Highs on Friday are projected to reach the lower to mid 60s under sunny skies and light winds.

Temperatures are forecast to peak this weekend with unseasonably warm readings in the upper 60s to lower 70s around the lake. These temperatures could approach record high readings in the lower to mid 70s for the date.

These temperatures will result in rapid melting of snow and rises in the stream flows around the lake. Enjoy the waterfalls and be safe near swift flowing water.
