Sunshine Letters: Queen of Hearts, snow Culpture,

Everyone at the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe would like to send our sincere thanks to the Queen of Hearts Womens Fund for providing us with a $15,000 grant to support our Community Spay/Neuter (CSN) Program. The Womens Fund has proven to be an incredible support to local non-profit organizations. The passion, drive, energy and devotion the Queens put into making our community a better place is truly inspiring and we are so fortunate to have been selected as one of the 2008 grant recipients. Our CSN program is in place to help people get their pets spayed/neutered who otherwise would not be able to due to financial restrictions. During these difficult economic times, the demand for this service is increasing significantly, and thanks to the Queen of Hearts, we will be able to continue to provide this service to everyone who qualifies. Anyone interested in receiving a CSN voucher can get an application by calling HSTT at 587-5948 or visiting our Web site at http://www.hstt.org. Thanks again to the Womens Fund for helping us continue to save and improve the lives of pets! Stephanie HiemstraExecutive DirectorHumane Society of Truckee-Tahoe

We attended the heart-breaking but uplifting service for our own Randy Davis; known community-wide as a wonderful friend, son, nephew, grandson, brother, skier, student, room-mate, team-mate. This community holds together in the most tragic of times, but the people here also bind together in a way that can only be accomplished in a small town. The hundreds of people attending each had their own reasons for sharing what is in their hearts, and honoring Randy and his family. We should all feel so proud to be a part of the Tahoe camaraderie. With appreciation,Andrea Carabetta, friends and family

On Dec. 3 Coldwell Banker at the Cobblestone kicked off their annual Toys For Tots drive. Thanks to the generous donations of Northstar-At-Tahoe, Alpine Meadows Ski Resort and Homewood Mountain Resort, we were able to distribute one day lift tickets or discount coupons to all those who stepped up to donate a toy. Our kick-off began with a party at our office with musical support from the North Tahoe High School Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Brittney Iverson. Food was supplied by SaveMart in Tahoe City, Safeway in Tahoe City and Kings Beach, Tahoe House, Blue Agave, Longs Drugs and Starbucks in Truckee, as well as from our real estate friends, Lori Wilson at Property ID, Debbie Banducci at American Home Shield Insurance, Sherine Duncan at Fidelity National Title, O’Dette Mortgage, Linda at Partners Mortgage and Todd Davis from Old Republic Home Protection. We couldnt have done it without a little help from our North Tahoe High School elves, Ella, Heidi, Lexie and Nikki. The North Tahoe kids who receive these toys, dolls, bike and games of every size and shape, had a better holiday because of all of you. Once again our little village has come together for a good cause. Our toy box overflowed with your generosity. Have a happy and prosperous New Year and join again for next years drive. The second year of the Holiday Hope Program was a great success thanks to the 82 wonderful donors! The commitment to help a fellow neighbor in these economic times is greatly admirable. We thank you for spending your time and money to assist struggling families. Through the program, 112 families received much needed assistance in celebrating the holiday season. With the help and support of our community this program has been able to grow each year. Tahoe Women’s Services Ski Day at Sugar Bowl was a huge success! Not only did we sell out, but we had a great time talking with lots of supporters in the community and sharing education with the public. Sugar Bowl generously donated 1,000 full-day lift tickets to Tahoe Womens Services to sell to the public. This is a fabulous donation, and we thank Sugar Bowl for their great community support. This is a fantastic way to help us raise funds and have fun. As usual, Sugar Bowl was incredibly supportive, helping us will all kinds of logistics and details.TWS also thanks Creative Concepts Media and Marketing for their ongoing support in helping us promote our event. And thank Sue Kass at BariColor-Lake Tahoe Photography in Tahoe City for printing all of our beautiful posters. Finally, TWS would like to extend a tremendous thanks to our volunteers.
