The 13th annual Truckee River Day was another great day of improvements to the Truckee River Watershed and as usual, the community came out by the hundreds to support their river. I would like to extend my appreciation to those whose contributions made the Martis Creek Wildlife Area projects another year of great accomplishments. Thanks so much to Tuff Beanz for contributing the coffee, to Mountain Hardware for their generosity when we ran out of funding for the last few materials and the Treat Box for a deal on donuts. Please remember these businesses when you shop in Truckee. A huge thanks goes to our wonderful trail partner, Northstar Community Services District and trail supervisor Ron Webb for contributing your support, time, tools and vehicles. It would all be so much harder without you!Truckee River Day would not happen without the invaluable contributions of the group leaders. Thanks so much to Stefani Olivieri, Georgia Smith, David Lass and John Roberts for taking charge of the creek trail rehab. I was honored to have these four awesome people volunteer for Martis. We also built another 300 feet of boardwalk to protect the wetlands along the trail. John Svahn and Steve Kirby were my rocks for this project on both Truckee Trails Day and Truckee River Day, I cannot thank you guys enough for being there for me at such a difficult time. I also want to thank Beth Christman and Lisa Wallace of the Truckee River Watershed Council (who are always thanking everyone else!) for their unending support of Martis and of me. I think you are two of the greatest women on the planet and our community is so lucky to have you; the amount of work that has been done at Martis and in our watershed due to your hard work, expertise and dedication is beyond measure. Don’t forget to put TRWC on your Christmas list!I am already looking forward to the 14th annual Truckee River Day and wonder what great things we can accomplish next year. Thanks so much to all the volunteers who contributed their very valuable time to such an important cause.
