An armed man wearing a mask attempted to rob a jewelry store located in the Boatworks Mall in Tahoe City Friday morning, but fled when the clerk refused to open the door.
Armed with a small, dark automatic pistol, the suspect came to Steve Schmier’s Jewelry at 9:09 a.m. Friday, before the store was opened for business, according to a news release issued by the Placer County Sheriff’s office.
The suspect demanded the clerk unlock the front door, but the clerk ducked behind the counter and called 911.
Despite numerous Placer County Sheriff’s units in the store’s vicinity, the suspect escaped, according to the press release.
But a security camera captured the suspect’s image.
The suspect was wearing dark shorts, a light-colored, long-sleeve shirt and a shoulder bag. He had a ski mask pulled over his face.
