Suspect sought in strange hit-and-run death
In a bizarre accident, a Tahoe City man was killed Wednesday, June 20, after the vehicle he was riding in had a flat tire on Interstate 80. The suspect in the death is still being sought.
A California Highway Patrol spokesperson said the man, John Krissovich, 50, had caught a ride with two other people from Auburn and the party was on their way to Reno.
While driving through Truckee the vehicle they were riding in had a flat tire near the Donner Lake Interchange.
“(Krissovich) and another woman in the car were walking to get help when an unknown party pulled over (apparently to offer assistance),” said CHP Officer Wes Maehler. “As (the driver) went to back up to the car, he ran over Krissovich.”
Once the man realized what had happened, Maehler said he fled the scene.
The accident occurred near the Donner Lake Interchange around 10:15 p.m. and witnesses say the man was driving a white or off-white colored pickup truck.
Krissovich was taken to Tahoe Forest Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:25 p.m.
CHP is still investigating the incident, but Maehler says the amount of information they are working with is small.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the CHP at (530) 582-7500.
