A man who allegedly stole a Truckee taxi while heavily intoxicated was arrested by Truckee police after a short vehicle chase Friday, Truckee police said.

On Friday just before 10 p.m. Truckee police received a call that an Ace High Taxi cab had been stolen by a customer from the Armstrong tract. The customer was apparently headed to the Alpine Country Lodge on Deerfield Drive.A police officer spotted the taxi on Donner Pass Road along Donner Lake, and the cab sped up to more than 80 mph, according to police. The officers followed the vehicle to the Chevron gas station on Deerfield Drive, where several other officers arrived to help.

According to a release from the police department, officers had to pull Brian Hooser, of Woodland and Truckee, from the taxi since he refused to come out on his own. Both Hooser and a police officer were slightly injured in the struggle. Hooser slightly skinned his chin and a police officer bruised his thigh, according to Truckee police Sgt. Jason Litchie.

Officers said Hooser appeared heavily intoxicated and was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and vehicle theft. He also has two felony warrants out for his arrest for violations of his probation.Hooser was taken to Tahoe Forest Hospital and then booked into jail.
