Swimmers splash into new season

Sun Staff reports

The Truckee High swim team kicked off its season with a dual meet at Incline on Friday.

Truckee’s stacked girls team defeated the Highlanders by a score of 145-72, while the much smaller Truckee boys squad posted 58 points to Incline’s 83.

“So you could see where our depth is,” said Truckee head coach Vicky Dewey, who has 18 girls and eight boys on her roster.

One of those boys is senior standout and co-team captain Arek O’Connell, who took first in both the 200 individual medley (2:11.45) and the 100 backstroke (1:03.29).

Truckee freshman Cara Silvas also won two events, taking the top spot in the 200 free (2:06.09) and the 500 free (5:29.85), while sophomore teammate Sophie Aaron won both the 50 free (27.95) and the 100 free (1:03.96).

Freshman Sara Westmorland placed first in the 100 fly (1:12.83) and senior Teague Mason was second in the 50 free (25.83).
