Tahoe City Public Utility District to hold special meeting Friday

TAHOE CITY “-The Tahoe City Public Utility District will have a special meeting of the Board of Directors today at 8:30 a.m. to discuss budgetary actions and water and sewer utilities.

Budget reductions and revenue enhancements and the water and sewer comprehensive rate study will be addressed during the finance discussion following the allotted time for public forum.

Rideout Community Center goals and objectives will also be discussed as they pertain to Parks and Recreation.

Some local residents have spoke out against a portion of property taxes going to support Parks and Recreation, questioning their tax dollars going to services they will not use, like soccer fields and baseball parks.

And while approximately $1 million was spent on the Bechdolt Soccer/Softball Field construction using reserves accumulated from property tax revenues, the other park projects, such as Commons Beach and Lakeside Trail were funded through grants, not local property taxes or reserves, according to a Utility District “frequently asked questions” document that addresses proposed water and sewer rate increases.
