Tahoe Donner death ruled a suicide

Staff ReportsThe Tahoe Donner man who was found dead in his apartment bathroom Tuesday morning apparently committed suicide by inhaling carbon monoxide, according to the Truckee Police Department. After an autopsy Wednesday, the Nevada County coroner concluded that the death was a suicide. The man lived in the Northwoods Boulevard apartment with his girlfriend and her daughter.Truckee police believe that he died on Monday night, but was not found until Tuesday morning when his girlfriend arrived at the apartment and discovered him with a gas mask over his face. Police said that the gas mask was used as part of the suicide.Neighboring apartments were evacuated on Tuesday because the police suspected that toxic chemicals from an illegal drug lab could have caused the death. Personnel from the California Department of Justice in Sacramento arrived on the scene Tuesday afternoon and found no dangerous chemicals in the apartment. The residences were reopened Tuesday evening.
