Tahoe Donner manager resigns

The Tahoe Donner Association will start looking for a new general manager to run the sprawling residential community and all of its amenities.

General Manager Darren Shaw will leave the association July 20 after five years in the position, citing personal reasons. The association’s legal counsel and Assistant Manager Dave Gravell will fill in for Shaw until a new general manager is hired.

“Darren Shaw has been in charge of the whole show essentially,” said Bruce Douglass, the board’s treasurer. “He’s done a super job, running the association like a business.”

Douglass said the general manager answers to the board of directors, but is in charge of running both the association’s membership and the subdivision’s many amenities including campgrounds, a marina, golf course, the lodge, a restaurant and a ski area.

According to the Tahoe Donner Association e-newsletter, Shaw’s resignation came as a surprise, but residents commended Shaw for the improvements throughout Tahoe Donner and within the association during his time as general manager.

Calls to Shaw seeking comment were not returned before deadline.

Douglass said Gravell, who has been with the association for 17 years, should have no problems assuming the role of general manager until the board decides on hiring a new person to permanently fill the position.

Two seats on the board are also up for election, and the new board will decide how to select a new general manager, Douglass said.
