Tahoe Forest Hospital welcomes baby Kiara

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — Tahoe Forest Hospital is pleased to announce the first baby of the new year was born Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014 at 8:36 a.m.

Baby girl Kiara Lara-Solorio weighed 5 pounds 6 ounces at birth and measured 18.5 inches. Her parents are Sandra Solorio and Alfredo Lara of Truckee. Baby Kiara also has a big sister, 5-year-old Eratze.

The Tahoe Forest Hospital Women and Family Center, represented by Sandra’s labor nurse, Vicki Howitt, and baby’s nurse, Missy Pursel, presented the family with a gift basket of items generously donated by community members and local merchants in honor the 2014 New Year’s baby, Kiara.



“I am surprised to have the first baby of the new year,” says Sandra, “because another was mom in labor before me.”

Tahoe Forest Hospital would like to recognize Wes and Tonya Beyer, owners of W&T Graphix, for the printed New Year’s infant tee; Mazie Carnell, who crafted and donated a hand-stitched baby quilt; Wild Cherries for the Wild Cherries infant tee; Tahoe Forest Retail Pharmacy for botanical creams; Mountain Hardware, who donated a Rainbow Stacker toy and a Sierra Essentials Gift Pack; Safeway in Truckee for the gift card; Truckee Starbucks, who gave a Tazo Tea gift tin, The Tahoe Forest Hospital Auxiliary for the stuffed bear; Sonia Bena at Images for her donation of a gift certificate for a hair cut and style; Deb Safford, Tahoe Forest Emergency Room RN, who gave two hand-knit baby hats; and Tahoe Forest Hospital Women and Family Center who gave diapers and love. Special thanks go to Julie Huck, owner of Gratitudes Gifts & Home Décor, for the lotions and stuffed toys and for assembling the beautiful gift basket.
