Tahoe Gear: Tahoemade Attire
Welcome to the third ‘Tahoe Gear’, a special Sierra Sun shopping season kickoff series that will open your eyes to a few Truckee and North Tahoe based manufacturers and their best products to stuff your stockings with this holiday season. Look out for a new business profile each day this week.
TAHOE CITY “-The word “local” gets thrown around a lot in Tahoe. Though opinions on the number of years it takes to earn “local” status vary widely, it’s certain that Tahoemade Attire, an emerging clothing brand created by two North Tahoe High School grads, lives up to its name ” the creative partnership between co-founders Jordan Basile and Morgan Miller spawned from designing varsity basketball rally shirts for rowdy classmates together.
But since creating those inspirational rally tees, the 2005 grads have turned a “Lakers Only” thing into an up and coming casual wear brand that represents anyone who appreciates the Tahoe lifestyle. Specializing in T-shirts and hoodies emblazoned with hip and colorful Tahoe-centric logos and designs, Tahoemade makes apparel that “integrates the physical elements of the lakeside environment into themes that represent the unique culture of Tahoe,” says Basile.
While the co-founders now attend different universities, Basile at Cal Poly-SLO and Miller at Arizona State University, strong local sales in the last year have kept the pair focused on producing an deepest apparel line up yet for this winter.
“Tahoemade is for everyone,” says Miller. “You’re not posing by wearing Tahoemade while not being from Tahoe. The attire is Tahoemade, not necessarily the people that wear it.”
Tahoemade’s cotton creations are of limited distribution so don’t expect to find them at the mall in Reno. Hit up clothing retailers Fine N’Funky Clothiers, Tahoe Dave’s, and Porter’s Sports in Tahoe City or Down by the River in Truckee. The comapny’s online store at http://www.tahoemadeattire.com will be up and running soon.
