Tahoe man gets 3 years prison over fight at mom’s Gardnerville home

The Associated Press

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (AP) ” A 27-year-old California man has been sentenced to three years in prison for battering his mother’s boyfriend after the three crashed through the railing of a 4-foot balcony at the mother’s home in Gardnerville.

Douglas County District Judge Dave Gamble told James Mickelson of South Lake Tahoe he must serve 12 months before he is eligible for parole.

Mickelson was on parole from California when the incident occurred in November. He earlier served time for battery on a police officer and sexual assault.

His mother told the judge she didn’t want her son to go to prison. But the judge told her, quote, “You need to recognize he is not the little sweetheart you think you should be defending.”
