Tahoe Maritime Museum receives $266,722 for new building

Sacramento – Senator Dave Cox today announced that the Tahoe Maritime Museum will receive $266,722.34 from the California Cultural and Historical Endowment Board for the completion of its museum. This new 5,800-square-foot building will provide a fun and family-friendly destination for Tahoe residents and visitors.

“Lake Tahoe is one of our nation’s natural treasures known for its blue waters and its rich history,” said Sen. Dave Cox. “In addition to the continuing efforts of volunteers to raise funding for the Museum, this state funding will move the new building a step closer to reality.” –

The Tahoe Maritime Museum was established 20 years ago to preserve and showcase watercraft, marine artifacts, and other items significant to Lake Tahoe’s maritime history. With the recent acquisition of a permanent location, the Museum will utilize the grant ” made possible through Proposition 40 ” to meet its long held goal of establishing an enduring collection that provides an interactive, educational experience to both residents and visitors to Lake Tahoe. Proposition 40 was approved by state voters in 2002.

Tom Bredt, President of the Museum Board of Directors and a resident of Lake Tahoe, said, “We are appreciative of Senator Dave Cox and the California Cultural and Historical Endowment Board for their help. Their support will allow us to make the Tahoe Maritime Museum a world-class facility.”

Sen. Dave Cox represents all of Lake Tahoe and the counties of Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Lassen, Modoc, Mono, Plumas and Sierra, as well as portions of Nevada, Placer and Sacramento Counties.
