Tahoe National Forest restrictions under way
TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Fire restrictions went into effect Tuesday, July 28, for Tahoe National Forest, meaning campfires and charcoal barbecues are only permitted in designated campgrounds and recreation sites.
Smoking is only permitted in an enclosed vehicle, building, developed recreation site or in a 3-foot area cleared of all flammable material.
Internal combustion engines can only be operated on roads or trails except for Prosser Pit.
In the backcountry, portable stoves are permitted with valid campfire permits, which can be obtained for free at any Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, or CalFire office.
Fireworks are illegal in the national forest as well.
and#8220;Recent hot, dry and windy weather has increased fire danger,and#8221; said deputy forest supervisor Judie Tartaglia in a press release. and#8220;Many of our fire indices show that we are above historic fire conditions for this time of year, and thus the need for fire restrictions. Abandoned campfires are the primary source of human-caused fires in Tahoe National Forest.and#8221;
