TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — The Tahoe Rim Trail Challenge, a self-guided program launched by the Tahoe Rim Trail Association, inspires visitors and residents to enjoy landscapes from six hand-picked scenic trail segments that pass through California and Nevada. Hundreds of participants, including families, individuals and groups, have begun the inaugural Tahoe Rim Trail Challenge. With almost 100 days left in 2013, there’s still time to embark on the Challenge.

Tahoe Rim Trail Challenge members receive a trekking T-shirt, access to a members-only website where they can track progress and share Trail Challenge pictures, and a one-year membership to the nonprofit Tahoe Rim Trail Association, plus a personal invitation to the Oct. 5 “Where’s McCleod the Marmot Giveaway Day.”

McLeod, a much-loved stuffed animal / trail mascot for the Tahoe Rim Trail Association, joins Tahoe Rim Trail Association staff and board members at the Peaks & Valley Challenge Site (Trail Challenge site No. 5) on Saturday, Oct. 5, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for surprise treats and a fall color display on the Tahoe Rim Trail.

Families and individuals from Reno, Tahoe, Sacramento and the Bay Area are currently participating in the Trail Challenge.

Corporate sponsorship comes from Spin Games, IGT, NV Energy, DRI, REI, Sunshine Tahoe, Squeeze In, North American Embroidery, Redemption Sports, KristineMitchell.com, KPS3, NC Communications and media partners — Capital Public Radio, The Weekly, KOLO8, 101.5 and Reno Gazette Journal.

Trail Challenge membership costs $55 for individuals and $85 for families. Visit http://trailchallenge.tahoerimtrail.org for more information or to register. Contact the TRTA office at 775-298-4485 or email info@tahoerimtrail.org.

TRTA exists to practice and inspire stewardship, promote access to the beauty of the Lake Tahoe region and sustain the Tahoe Rim Trail system through two overarching programs: Trail Operations and Trail Use.
