The Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA), in partnership with the American Red Cross, will be offering a CPR/First Aid certification course Saturday, March 28. The course will begin at 9 a.m. in the D.W.R. nonprofit building, Incline Village and will last until approximately 3 p.m. The course is open to the public. Additionally, the TRTA would like to recruit volunteers for the organization and CPR/First Aid certification is required for all volunteer guides, hike leaders, ambassadors and crew leaders. The cost is $45 which includes instruction, a one year certification and educational materials. The American Cancer Society is offering a free I Can Cope (ICC) teleconference. The ICC is a series of free, educational, peer support classes and is facilitated by medical professionals. This program is offered every month. Below is the information for April and May 2009. Wednesday, April 1, 10 a.m. to noon, Relieving Cancer Pain, facilitator Mark Holtsman, PharmD. Register by March 25.Wednesday, May 6, 10 a.m. to noon, Nutrition During and After Cancer Treatment, facilitator Vicky Newman, MS, RD. Register by April 29.The ICC is exclusively for adult cancer patients and caregivers. This provides a safe, confidential environment for participants to receive support as well as support others by sharing questions, thoughts and experiences.Patients and caregivers can register by calling toll-free (800) 227-2345. This number is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Pre-registration is required so the Society can mail or e-mail class materials and dial-in information directly to the patients or caregivers home or e-mail address.
Couples massage now offered at Sierra College. Learn a few easy but effective massage techniques in a fun, hands-on class, suitable for a variety of couples. Both partners will give and receive massage. Class lecture is kept to a minimum and emphasis on techniques and communication will allow you to use your new skills immediately. No disrobing is necessary; dress comfortably in loose-fitting clothing, bring two pillows and a mat or towel. Must register with a partner. Materials: $5 at class.
