Tahoe Truckee Unified School District News & Notes

How was school today? you ask your teenager. OK, he responds while simultaneously texting his girlfriend. Many parents can relate to this typical non-communicative communication. Whether its because they are preoccupied or simply not interested in sharing their academic tales, teenagers often leave their parents feeling flummoxed. Fortunately, a Tahoe Truckee Unified School District Web site seeks to bridge the parent/student communication gap.Online for two years, the Aeries Web site allows parents to keep up-to-date with their students grades, attendance and homework information. Its great to monitor progress, notes Dave Curry, Tahoe Truckee Unified School District director of educational services. If parents see their students progress slipping they can address it sooner rather than later.Curry adds the site is also a coup for competitive athletes who may travel out of town frequently. For instance, ski racers can check on current homework assignments and then make arrangements to e-mail their work in, Curry says.Aeries allows parents and students access to virtually all pertinent school information including state and federal testing and assessments. Elementary school parents are accustomed to getting Friday folders, in middle school and high school parents only get report cards and progress reports, says Curry, noting that the Web site can serve as a jumping-off point for enhanced parent/student communication. To logon to the Aeries site and access a students information, one must create an account through the Tahoe Truckee Unified School Districts Web site, http://www.ttusd.org.
