Tahoe weather: Snowstorm stalls traffic in Sierra, northern Nevada

The Associated Press

TRUCKEE ” A snowstorm is stalling traffic in the Sierra and northern Nevada.

Chains are mandatory on all three major highways linking the Sacramento and Lake Tahoe areas: Interstate 80 over Donner Summit, U.S. 50 over Echo Summit and Highway 88 over Carson Pass.

Chains or snow tires are required on U.S. 395 north of Reno and Bridgeport, Calif., as well as on highways around Lake Tahoe.

In northern Nevada, similar controls are in effect for portions of I-80 and U.S. 50.

The National Weather Service is calling for snow throughout the day in the Sierra and northern Nevada.
