In an effort to better serve every North Shore neighborhood, Tahoe Womens Services has opened a new office in Tahoe City. Now located inside Sierra Family Services, the nonprofit agency makes a bilingual advocate available on Tuesdays in Lake Forest. Some people dont have transportation, which I know is a big problem. So now were able to help that community out and were available to [Tahoe City], said the groups Camille Jones.A bus stop is located directly in front of the office on Lake Forest Road.Weve wanted to [open a Tahoe City office] for some time, we just [didnt] have the funds, Jones said. Thanks to the cooperation of Sierra Family Services, Tahoe Womens Services will now use office space inside the family service facility, providing a fourth womens service office in the area.

Were used to working in a collaborative way, so when the idea came that they needed space, in an effort to further the collaboration it seemed like a really nice fit, said Program Manager Barbara Hopkins of Sierra Family Services in Tahoe.Additionally, the center provides all the counseling for Tahoe Womens Services.Tahoe Womens Services is dedicated to reducing the incidence and trauma of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse in the Tahoe-Truckee communities. Staff and volunteers provide several services for victims such as crisis intervention, court mediation, translation, emergency food and shelter or peer counseling, and are also a source of education.
