On this page you will find links to all the Sierra Sun’s stories about the local, state and national elections affecting the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee region.By our best count, 11 contested local races will be decided on the November ballot. Add to that a couple races for state assembly and state senate, and a hotly contested U.S. House of Representatives seat, and weve got our hands full getting information out to local voters.The Sierra Sun is profiling the races in a series of question-and-answer segments, links to all of which can be found below. Truckee voters will have a chance to vote for local offices and state and national political seats as early as Monday. The Truckee Town Clerks office at Truckee Town Hall will be open for early voting during regular business hours (Monday-Friday between the hours of 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1 p.m.-5 p.m.) beginning Oct. 6.
Tahoe-Truckee Unified School DistrictThe four candidates for the Truckee Tahoe School District Board of Directors showcased their thoughts, plans and ideas before about 20 community members Tuesday night at the Truckee Town Hall. Challengers Nancy Gisko, Monty Folsom, Kirsten Livak and Lisa Mohun all shared time in a question-and-answer style forum moderated by Lisa Wallace.In the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District Board of Trustees race Kristen Livak is challenging Monty Folsom for the Area 2 seat. Lisa Mohun is challenging Nancy Gisko in the area 4 seat. North Tahoe Public Utility DistrictCandidates Frank Mooney and Phil Thompson answer questions about rates, infrastructure and more. Tahoe City Public Utility DistrictCandidates for the Tahoe City Public Utility District answer questions about the acquisition of private water companies, how they will handle shrinking budgets, and what makes them qualified for the job. Truckee Donner Public Utility DistrictThe eight candidates for the Truckee Donner Public Utility District answer questions posed by Sierra Sun staff and readers. Squaw Valley Public Service DistrictCandidates answer questions about water supply, projects they might subsidize from the Community Benefit Fund and how they would improve the district. Truckee Town CouncilFour of the five candidates for Truckee Town Council squared off on the issues Tuesday night. Incumbents Barbara Green and Josh Susman shared the dias with challengers Jamie Brimer and Joan Jones taking questions from the public one at a time. Measure UVoters wanting to learn more about Proposition U, the Tahoe Truckee Unified School Districts request for building and technology improvements, will have a number of public meetings to ask questions to the district.When voters head to the polls on Nov. 4 in Nevada and Placer Counties, supporters of the Tahoe Truckee School District are hoping they cast their votes for more than just the presidential ticket. After a narrow defeat in June, backers of Measure L a $93 million capital improvement project for the Truckee schools are hoping voters support its current incarnation, Measure U, and breathe new life into the Truckee facilities.The Measure U campaign took the time to answer questions about the latest Tahoe Truckee Unified School District bond measure.A group of about 10 Truckee citizens gathered last Tuesday night to discuss the pros and cons of Measure U, the $93 million bond measure to update the Truckee schools.
