Teresa Lara named Truckee postmaster

Truckee will soon have a new postmaster – one with a familiar face.

Teresa Lara, who has worked in the Tahoe-Truckee area for the past 11 years, was transferred to the Truckee Post Office as officer in charge in July 1997 while the postmaster, Patricia Larsen was away. When Larsen announced her retirement, Lara was promoted to the position.

Lara gave up a management position in Southern California in order to move to the Tahoe-Truckee area in 1987, and initially worked as a clerk in the Truckee Post Office. However, her residence was in Tahoe City, so she transferred to that office, where she worked in customer service and on duty assignments.

Challenging position

She said the job in Truckee is enjoyable because it offers different challenges.

“It varies,” Lara said. “I’ve got rural carriers, so I’m involved with delivery. There’s also the station at Donner Branch, with four full-time clerks.”

In addition to her administrative duties, Lara is raising her two teenage children, Emily and Joshua Feliciano, who are students at North Tahoe Middle School and North Tahoe High School.

“They are extremely good teenagers,” Lara said.

She will be sworn in officially as Truckee Postmaster in a ceremony in the main Truckee Post Office May 1 at 11 a.m.
