Theres a little slice of heaven just down the road a piece. Spa Atlantis in Reno is a 30,000-square-foot maze of lush accommodations, newly renovated as part of the resort casinos multi-million dollar expansion. Replenish winter skin, rejuvenate your mind and body, work out with Technogym cardio equipment for a start. It is an experience well worth the $45 day or $110 three-day pass. Walk out of the world into your personal nirvana. The music is soft from pan flutes to piano, piped discreetly throughout. Sign in with an affable staff member, and your spa experience begins. First, the tour to the locker room. Which is an experience in and of itself. A plush robe, sauna slippers and your locker await. Choose a cedar sauna, with a low degree of humidity or breath in the aromatic air and steamy, welcome humidity of the sauna. After steeping my parched self in the sauna, I donned the velvet robe and awaited a Swedish massage in the Tea Room, where citrus or pineapple mint infused water is self-served from opulent glass containers. Each has its health benefit; the citrus is high in vitamin C, the pineapple mint an herbal mix for the recovery of muscles. After partaking of the waters and a honey-nut mixed schnibble, I sat. The lounge chair cushions softly embraced my torso, neck and head, which I turned in laconic repose to watch the wide screen images of an ocean sunrise. And I wasnt even out of the womens locker area.Massage therapist Emily Kent arrived and took me to a treatment room, where the lights were low, the sheets a brushed cotton beyond inviting. Its the most relaxing place to work, with a good crew, said Kent. Its almost perfect.Kent performed an absolutely brilliant massage, a therapeutic kind that increased blood flow and oxygen and relieved aches and pains. Kent turned the soothing rain stick time and again to lower the blood pressure. As Kent stated, the experience is truly a miracle.I floated over to the Brine Light-Inhalation room, built by a German mason, and again was ensconced in a space of purified air and color. A tiered wall of salt crystals glowed under a cycle of amber (calming), blue (soothing), green (peace), red (motivation), and white (refresh) lights, offering a 24 percent brine waterfall that positively effects the respiratory system. Here, there was a severe snag. I didnt want to move. But a girl must get her job done. It was off to the Laconium Relaxation Lounge. Water rivulets continuously down a blue-tiled wall, curved behind a podium adorned with a glowing quartz crystal. The room detoxifies the body, stimulates circulation and the heated seats are contoured in tiny round pastel tiles. The temperature is mild, as is the energy. Very relaxing.Once again, it was time to make a move. And there appears a helpful staff person, asking if she could relieve me of my cumbersome bag. It had my camera equipment, so I thanked her and was again impressed by the attentiveness of the employees.Sadly enough, my time was constrained (second job, mom, was calling) and I had to forgo the sumptuous co-ed Aqua Spa Lounge, where chairs of incredible comfort line up in front of two Jacuzzi whirlpools, a cold plunge and an experiential nature shower. There are four water experiences, choreographed with sights and sounds. Do you prefer ice fog, tropical rain, thunderstorms or a waterfall? Take your pick. The womens locker area is marvelously appointed. Pure Fiji lavender oil body scrub and Aveda bath products enhance the multi-head shower. The towels are fragrant, impossibly white and fluffy. An area with blow dryers and perfectly lit mirrors are yours for the primping. Hydrate with Pure Fiji body lotion a new level of smooth and creamy. For those who are ready to be pampered in truly hedonistic fashion, try the Pantai Luar treatment derived from ancient Asia and revived by German science. Coconut, lime, herbs and essential oils exfoliate and resurrect skin cells. Massage with heated sachets, with extra manipulation and pressure, release the herbs and oils into the skin. Spa Atlantis is one of less than a dozen spas that offer this treatment in the U.S. Youd have to go to Tuscon to enjoy this therapy, said Ben McDonald, publicist for the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa.Any skin care, massage, body wraps and spa body treatments include the use of facilities. The attention to detail is exquisite. Tiles from around the world grace every room, the halls and the floor. Water features throughout create a sense of calm. Dip into the indoor atrium pool and year-round outdoor whirlpool. The infused waters perch at stations throughout. My one concern is the use of plastic cups. I reused mine. Even the trash cans are pressurized, so the tops descend noiselessly. When you leave, take a touch of Spa Atlantis with you. The retail available includes the fragrant Pure Fiji, organic Dermilogica, herbal teas, bath bombs, opulent robes, eye pillows, and Sonoma bath oils and salts. If youre feeling down after the long winter, get your mind, body and spirit out of the mountains and into the Spa Atlantis. Find a sitter. This is a place of repose for those 18 and over.Call (775) 954-4135 or visit http://www.spaatatlantis.com for the full menu of amenities. The Sierra Sun is serious about spas this spring.
