The Truckee Fire Protection District’s annexation of the Donner Summit Fire Department is complete
The Truckee department will now be responsible for eight fire stations and more than 130 square miles of territory from Nyack to the state line.
Talks to transfer administration and management to Truckee fire began more than two years ago when the Summit’s small fire department, which is operated by the Donner Summit Public Utility District, began struggling with personnel turnover, thin financial margins and the fact that the department did not have a full-time chief, according to utility district officials.
The final Nevada County Local Agency Formation Commission administrative hearing was conducted on June 19, resulting in an effective date of the annexation of July 1.
Form this point forward, direct all correspondence and information requests for the Donner Summit service area to Truckee Fire Protection District, P.O. Box 2768, Truckee, CA 96160, 582-7850.
