Thieves steal snowboards

An estimated 10 snowboards and five to eight jackets were stolen from Porter’s Ski and Sport in Truckee early Tuesday morning in a break-in.

According to Nevada County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Dave Baxley, at least two suspects pried open the back door of the ski and snowboard retail shop, located in the Crossroads Center, at 1:17 a.m.

The store’s alarm went off, and the suspects tore the alarm from the wall. The alarm company was not notified, according to the police report.

The items were stolen in a very short amount of time, and Baxley said the thieves knew the store and were out in about two minutes.

“They knew what they were doing,” Baxley said. “They kicked the door in, knew what they wanted, quickly grabbed some snowboards and a couple of coats and left.”

An employee of Albertson’s heard the alarm and ran outside just in time to see a small sports utility vehicle drive away from the rear of Porter’s at a high rate of speed. No further description of the vehicle was available.

Baxley said NCSO deputies were waiting for serial numbers from the stolen goods to be reported before a more accurate count of equipment stolen can be given. The investigation is continuing.

NCSO is requesting anyone with any information on the incident to call 582-7838.
