Thursday’s forecast: Cool today with brisk northeast winds, cloudy on Friday

A large upper low pressure system centered over eastern Nevada will direct a cool northeast flow over the Tahoe area today and Friday.

Highs today are forecast to reach the lower to mid 50s around the lake under partly cloudy skies. Gusty northeast winds around 10 to 20 mph will create rough boating conditions on Lake Tahoe especially on the south and west shores. Lows tonight are expected to drop into the mid 20 to lower 30s as winds diminish overnight.

The cool air mass will remain over the area on Friday with highs reaching the mid 50s under cloudy skies. Lingering moisture and instability associated with the low pressure system will allow isolated showers to develop with the afternoon heating.

Little change is expected in this unseasonably cool and unsettled weather pattern through the holiday weekend. Could see an increase in shower activity Saturday with another low dropping south from the Pacific Northwest.
