Today’s forecast: Near-record warm weather today, possible showers tonight

An early taste of Spring will start off the work week with near record high temperatures around the Eastern Sierra and Lake Tahoe Basin today.

Under mostly sunny skies this morning with increasing mid and high clouds this afternoon temperatures should climb into the 50s with near 60 around Markleeville and Woodfords.

Winds will be fairly light but will begin to pick up from the southwest this afternoon especially over the higher elevations. At lower elevations winds will be in the 10 to 20 mph range with winds over the ridges gusting to 40 mph by late in the day. For tonight a weak weather system will pass through bringing mainly clouds but a few light rain or snow showers are possible mainly north of Tahoe around Truckee.

Snow levels will be near 6,500 feet. Temperatures tonight will be mild with lows only dropping into the 30s. Bigger changes are in store later in the week with much colder weather and snow so enjoy the early teaser while it lasts.
